Healing in Community: A Vision of Restoration, Rejuvenation, and Conscious Creation
I believe people are meant to thrive through active, present-centered creation. Healing unfolds when we are supported in making conscious choices—choices that honor the body, regulate the nervous system, and align daily living with our deepest values. Thriving is not accidental; it is cultivated through awareness, intention, and environments that make wholeness possible.
I am a nature-centered marriage and family therapist specializing in trauma, and my work is rooted in the belief that healing is not just about surviving—it’s about restoration and rejuvenation. Especially for BIPOC, disabled, and other marginalized communities, true healing must be holistic, accessible, and grounded in care for the whole person.
After spending time in Hawaiʻi, I returned to Virginia with a clear vision: to create an intentional healing community. A space where people are committed to doing their inner work while being supported collectively. A place where trauma-informed mental health care exists alongside body care and wellness, nourishment, meaningful connection, life skills, and pathways to financial stability.
This healing center is envisioned as a social enterprise sustained through agriculture. The goal is a greenhouse and garden. We believe in being with the land and supporting healthy ecosystems. The land becomes a partner in healing—providing nourishment, rhythm, and renewal—while supporting the long-term sustainability of the center itself. It is a model rooted in reciprocity, kindness, empowerment, dignity, and care.
The Journey(c) is a social enterprise rooted in the belief that individuals and communities are capable of sufficiency, resilience, and collective care when given the right support. We believe in cultivating environments where people can meet their needs holistically—emotionally, physically, financially, and relationally—while strengthening their capacity to support one another.
Designed to serve those seeking conscious community, The Journey(c) supports families of disabled youth who are navigating uncertainty and fear around long-term plans for their adult children, as well as single parents who desire comprehensive support across all levels of life. Through an integrated model that centers healing, skill-building, wellness, and sustainable livelihood, The Journey exists to help people move beyond survival and into stability, restoration, and shared thriving.
Healing does not happen in isolation. It happens in environments designed for restoration, spaces that invite our nervous systems to soften, and communities that support ongoing rejuvenation of mind, body, and spirit. This is the work I am devoted to building—one rooted in nature, community, and wholeness.
Loving you,
Ellen
