Part 1- Discussion Points: Our bodies are our teachers. We sense, feel and experience through our bodies. Our bodies are a part of nature. We are energetic and organic beings. Yet, how often do we neglect, ignore or push our bodies? How often do we connect, soothe and relax our bodies?
Part 2- Discussion Points: Our bodies help us to do the things that our mind cannot at times. Knowing how to use your body to increase focus, calm, confidence, trust, and joy are important skills to learn. Also, when we understand our own bodies and energy, we can be useful as a group of bodies. Reminder- the body speaks to the mind, the mind speaks to the body. Slow movements are for… Fast movements are for…
Activities- (1 hour)
- Circle and Sync. Participants will stand in a circle arms’ length apart and breathe in unison, taking turns. (Focus/Calm)
- Group activity- Hulu hoop. Participants will engage in a group activity about balancing a hula hoop.
- Group activity- Parachute Play Participants will work as a group to keep a ball up in the air using a small parachute.
- Group activity- Two team Relay. Participants will complete a series of activities and whichever team wins gets a prize.
- Music and ball toss activity. Group members will toss a ball to each other to the rhythm, speed of the music and while standing. (Focus/Fun)
- Debrief activities as a group- what did you feel in your body during? Name an emotion and then where you felt it in your body.

- Creating your own energy ball. Participants will engage in a 1-2 minute body centered activity of creating their own energy ball.
- Group activity- Hulu hoop. Participants will engage in a group activity about balancing a hulu hoop.
- Group activity- Water balloon toss and relay. Participants will work in two teams to complete a water balloon toss and relay.
- Debrief activities as a group- what did you feel in your body during? Name an emotion and then where you felt it in your body.
- Individual introspective activity- Body Mapping & mild music. Participants will complete a body map to deepen their knowledge of their body.

Each person will write their name on a piece of paper and the papers will rotate until everyone has had an opportunity to write one of three types of statements anonymously on their group mate’s paper. 1. - The challenges of sharing or holding boundaries activity. The group will write barriers to boundary setting and place them in a bowl. Ellen will respond to what has been added to the bowl to maintain individual privacy.
- Participants will “shop” for their preferences and boundaries during a discovery exercise.

- It is commonly accepted- mind/brain controls the body.
- Bi-directional communication means- the body holds the potential to influence the mind. This means that if we are stressed, our bodies can be essential in calming our mind. This is not what we have been taught!
- When we have experienced multiple traumas, we may have a more difficult time maintaining a state of calm. When the stress response system activates in someone with complex trauma, those individuals may feel like they have a shorter fuse. This can feel like being emotionally overwhelmed and activated beyond what one can handle.
- Many people currently are in a state of emotional dysregulation because of this consistently activated stress response system. Without emotional regulation we cannot have connection.
- Activity 1 – Alternate Nostril breathing
- Activity 2- Energetic Massage
- Activity 3- Cranial Hold position
- Activity 4- Progressive Muscle Relaxation- Noodling
- Activity 5- The Grounding Tree Activity
- Participants will engage in a tree visualization.
- Participants invited to learn about the grounded tree pose.
- Participants will create grounding nature jars and select the affirmation that they will utilize for the next few weeks.

- Activity 1- Rhythm regulates. We each have to find our own rhythm. We are always figuring out our rhythm- what works for us and doesn’t, we will each make our own egg.– Making rhythm eggs-
- Activity 2- Rewards, reward.– Do an activity that requires engaging your hands or whole body. We will participate in different sensory activities. Participants will be able to make their own -Rhythm & Reward grounding kit.- Participants will play with various sensory items; water beads, sand, playdoh, Pipe cleaners, bubbles, pinwheels, and/or another fidgets with the intent on finding what works best for them for soothing. Participants will also be able to add cards of other grounding activities that they may enjoy at home but were modeled or discussed by Ellen.
